Coast Guard visited New Haven for a unique session involving a combined practice session then a 40-minute match. The first part of the session saw Yale and Coast Guard compete in lineouts, scrums and backs play. After a short break, both teams put on their uniform in preparation for a live match.

Yale dominated the match and spent large portions of the game deep in Coast Guard territory. Yale created many scoring opportunities but failed to capitalize as the try line beckoned. However, the pressure mounted and a quick tap penalty then pass from flyhalf and captain Dan Marsh '21 fed hard-running second-row Ryan Vollmer '21. Ryan drew in the last defender and neatly offloaded to outside centre Syimyk Kyshtoobaev '22 who beat the defender to score. 5-0 to Yale.

The second half started in a similar vein with Yale piecing together some nice plays. It was defensive pressure resulting from good line speed and a turnover from Kevin Gallagher '22 that led to quick ball reaching Dan March '22. Dan cut a great line to score under the posts and also converted his try. 12-0. More defensive pressure and a turnover from first-year Nick Rice '23 and then fast hands out wide allowed Nick Weinberger '23 to beat three defenders to score in his first appearance. Coast Guard scored on the last play of the game, capitalizing on a loose pass to leave the final score 17-5 to Yale.

Yale now turns their attention to the next match-up away to Fairfield University on Saturday, September 7th.
